Amr bil Ma'ruf (enjoining the good)
It means enjoining the good. Simply put, the term “Amr bil Ma’ruf” represents the “dos” of Islam. In other words, the terms denote what is permissible.
Exhorting others to be virtuous is one of the most important duties of a Muslim. A society can progress in right direction so long as there are people in it who know the right path and who are willing to show it to others.
In the spiritual sense, the terms mean acknowledging and obeying the Creator and shunning evil.
In this regard the Qur’an says:
“And from among you there should be a group who invite good and enjoin what is right and forbid the wrong; and they only shall be successful”. (3:103)
